The 2023 gubernatorial candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State, Isa Ashiru, has urged traders not to hike food prices during the month-long Ramadan and Lent.
Ashiru called on residents to tolerate one another and leave peacefully, as he extended greetings to the Muslims Ummah and Christians as they both commenced their fasting.
In his message, Ashiru enjoined Muslims and Christians to see the period of fasting as an opportunity to put the best teachings of Islam and Christianity into practice.
He tasked Muslims and Christians in the state to use this period to build a relationship of friendship and harmony with one another.
Ashiru who lamented the current spate of insecurity and economic hardship which he attributed to bad governance, prayed for continued peace, progress and prosperity of Kaduna State.
“This is a challenging period for all of us, so therefore, we must ensure that we put our differences aside, and ensure that Kaduna state works in the interest of all and sundry.
“This period of Ramadan and Lenten season is for spiritual rejuvenation and to strengthening the bond with the Almighty. So, we should use this period to pray for peace, stability, and progress in Kaduna and Nigeria in general.
“Nigerians are blessed to witness two Holy seasons unfolding side by side,” Ashiru emphasised
He urged the Kaduna State government to ensure that the welfare and well-being of the citizens were prioritised and not politicised, “especially at a period like this.”
