President Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday, decorated the newly appointed Acting Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, with his new rank at the State House, Abuja.

The decoration formed part of an expanded swearing-in ceremony held around 3:00 p.m., attended by top government and security officials.

With his swearing-in, the Lagos-born 59-year-old Police officer becomes Nigeria’s 23rd Inspector-General of Police, marking a new phase in the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

Disu arrived at the Presidential Villa at about 2:50 p.m. for the ceremony and held a brief meeting with the President ahead of the event.

His appointment followed the resignation of the immediate-past Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, which was confirmed on Tuesday.

In a statement issued by the Presidential Spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu approved Egbetokun’s resignation after the former police chief submitted a letter citing pressing family considerations.

Among those present at the ceremony were the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the Brigade Commander, other senior security officials, as well as Disu’s parents.

The immediate-past IGP, Egbetokun, also attended the event.
