The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has finalised plans to receive Vice President Kashim Shettima, ahead of the formal defection of Governor Dauda Lawal to the party, scheduled for next Tuesday.

The announcement was made by the state APC chairman, Tukur Danfulani Maikatako, during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Gusau on Saturday.

Maikatako expressed satisfaction over Lawal’s return to the APC, describing the move as a significant boost for the party in the state. He revealed that the vice president, alongside members of the party’s national leadership, will be in Zamfara to officially welcome the governor.

“We are aware that Zamfara has long been a stronghold of the APC, and the governor was once a committed member before his departure,” Maikatako said. “Now that he has chosen to return, it shows confidence in the party’s direction and leadership.”

He called on party members across all 147 wards in the state’s 14 local government areas to turn out in large numbers to receive the vice president, noting that the visit is aimed at strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Maikatako also urged members to put aside internal divisions and work together in unity. “We must move beyond factional differences and see ourselves as one family, united by a shared vision of progress for Zamfara and Nigeria,” he added.

In a similar vein, former state APC chairman, Lawal Liman, encouraged party faithful to mobilise support at the grassroots level. He stressed the importance of spreading the message across wards and local government areas, reaffirming that the APC remains committed to collective success and development.
