The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has endorsed the education policy of Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, commending the administration’s commitment to revitalising the sector.
Sanusi gave the endorsement on Sunday during the traditional Sallah homage to the governor at the Kano State Government House.
The emir specifically lauded the allocation of about 30 per cent of the state’s budget to education, describing it as a bold and strategic investment in human capital development.
“We thank the governor for prioritising education. The results are already evident in the improved performance of our students in NECO, JAMB and tertiary institutions,” he said.
He urged residents, particularly young people, to take advantage of the government’s policies by returning to school and completing their education.
“Anyone who has not completed tertiary education should go back and do so. If your wife is willing to pursue education, support her. Education comes before kingship,” Sanusi stated.
The monarch also clarified that his personal return to school was aimed at setting an example, dismissing claims linking the decision to legal issues.
“My return to school is not because of court matters, but to encourage others. A king who acquires education attains greater dignity,” he added.
Sanusi further commended the state government’s broader development efforts, including infrastructural projects and urban renewal initiatives, noting that they reflect a commitment to the overall growth of Kano State.
He, however, urged the administration to sustain the momentum while calling on residents to support government efforts and pray for peace, unity and progress.
In his remarks, Governor Yusuf, represented by the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Ismail Falgore, appreciated the emir for the visit and continued support.
Falgore reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving education and other critical sectors, while assuring residents of sustained efforts to protect lives and property.
