The Sokoto State Government has approved the general overhaul of its 40-year-old water treatment and supply facilities to enhance water supply in the state.

The general manager, Sokoto State Water Board, Engr. Aminu Haruna Mika’ilu, confirmed this, noting that the aim of the noble gesture by Governor Ahmed Aliyu, is to urgently restore the lost glory of the board and enable it to function to its full installed capacity.

Mika’ilu also commended Governor Aliyu for approving the ongoing total rehabilitation of the State Water Board with a view to upgrading and modernizing the system established over 40 years ago.

“If these projects are completed, the issue of modernising the city in Sokoto will soon be history,” he said.

He maintained that this is in addition to four new water supply projects embarked upon to boost water supply to Sokoto metropolis and its environs.

According to him, the move was part of the sustained invaluable efforts of the state government under the leadership of Aliyu to tackle the paucity of water in the ever-expanding Sokoto city and its environs.

The general manager listed the locations of the new ongoing projects to include: Old Airport, Tamaje, Mana, and Rugar Liman.

According to Engr. Mika’ilu, the water supply projects in Old Airport and Tamaje each have an installed capacity of 150,000 gallons per day.

He also said that the projects in Mana and Rugar Liman each have an installed capacity of 450,000 gallons per day.

“All these projects are ongoing and according to their specifications, just as they will soon be completed and fully powered.

“They will be linked to the main Sokoto water supply in view of bolstering the daily water output to the capital city and its adjoining settlements,” he said.

Engr. Mika’ilu added that the Runjin Sambo water station that was hitherto vandalized will also soon be rehabilitated by the state government.
