Air Peace has called for patience from passengers following flight disruptions linked to a global shortage of aviation fuel.
The airline said the situation was not limited to Nigeria, noting that airlines worldwide were adjusting operations due to constrained supply.
“Flights are being cancelled and delayed all over the world now because of these fuel shortage issues. Fuel is being rationed. Hence, we call on all to bear with the situation. We’ve also officially informed the Nigerian public about the situation, and it’s under control,” a source in the airline said.
The development comes amid complaints from passengers affected by delays. Media personality Anita Natacha Akide, popularly known as Tacha, had earlier criticised the airline, saying a delayed flight caused her to miss her best friend’s wedding after the departure time was moved from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The disruptions have been linked to ongoing instability in the Middle East, which has affected the global supply of aviation fuel and forced airlines to cut back or reschedule flights.
In Nigeria, the situation escalated last week, with airlines warning of a possible shutdown of operations due to rising costs and limited fuel availability. President Bola Tinubu subsequently called for caution and indicated possible relief measures, including support for the sector.
Reactions on social media have been divided. While some netizens criticised the airline over the delays, others defended Air Peace, arguing that the problem was industry-wide rather than peculiar to one carrier.
On X (formerly Twitter), @sarah_johnson wrote that the disruptions were affecting “every airline.”
Another user, @Sophia_Maduaka, also argued that the Air Peace was not solely responsible, noting that the aviation fuel situation has impacted multiple operators.
Air Peace was yet to issue a formal public statement beyond earlier notices sent to passengers at press time, as airlines continued to adjust schedules in response to the ongoing aviation fuel supply constraints.
