African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential aspirant, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, on Friday held a closed-door meeting with former President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja as consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum.

The private meeting brought together two men who share a longstanding relationship dating back to Jonathan’s years in government.

During Jonathan’s tenure as Vice President, Hayatu-Deen served as a member of the National Council on Privatization and also chaired the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE). He later worked on the Presidential Advisory Committee during Jonathan’s time as Acting President and subsequently as President.

Sources familiar with the discussions said the meeting focused on the current state of the nation, governance challenges, and the political outlook ahead of the 2027 elections.

Hayatu-Deen, an economist and banker with decades of experience across both the public and private sectors, used the visit to formally inform Jonathan of his decision to seek the presidency on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The ADC aspirant had reportedly collected his presidential nomination form from the party’s national secretariat a day earlier.

During the engagement, Hayatu-Deen commended Jonathan for his continued role in promoting democracy and electoral integrity across Africa, describing the former President as a respected statesman on the continent.

Jonathan, in turn, warmly received the ADC aspirant and wished him success in his political ambition.

Hayatu-Deen’s supporters say his over 40 years of experience in economic management, banking, and institutional reforms position him as a strong contender capable of tackling insecurity, reducing the rising cost of living, and creating employment opportunities for Nigerians.
