Police in Zamfara State late Thursday countered bandits in Anka local government area of Zamfara State and recovered rustled livestock from them.
A statement signed by police spokesman DSP Yazid Abubakar said yesterday, “On 14th May, 2026, at about 1700hrs, armed bandits invaded Moda Village in Anka LGA of Zamfara State, shooting indiscriminately with the intent to rustle cattle belonging to residents of the community.”
Abubakar stated that one person identified as Shehu Moda died during the attack, while three other persons sustained bullet wounds.
“Upon receipt of the distress call, police operatives responded immediately and engaged the bandits in a gun duel, forcing them to flee into the bush with suspected bullet wounds and abandon the rustled cattle.
“The recovered cattle were successfully secured and restored to the rightful owners, while the injured victims were promptly evacuated to the hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.
“The commissioner of police, Ahmad Muhammad Bello, reassures members of the public of the command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state,” Abubakar said.
He further urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to support security agencies with timely and credible information on criminal activities.
