Kwara South Monarchs Endorse Igbomina For 2027 Senate Seat

Traditional rulers from the Igbomina area of Kwara South Senatorial District have endorsed the Igbomina bloc to produce the district’s next senator in the 2027 general election.

The position was announced by the Chairman of the Igbomina Traditional Rulers Forum and Olupo of Ajase-Ipo, Oba Ismail Yahaya, following a meeting of traditional rulers held at his palace in Ajase-Ipo.

According to Oba Yahaya, the endorsement is based on the rotational arrangement that has existed among the Igbomina, Ekiti and Ibolo blocs in the senatorial district since the return to democratic rule in 1999.

The Igbomina bloc comprises Ifelodun, Isin and Irepodun Local Government Areas.

The monarch said records of political representation in the district showed that the Ekiti bloc produced former Senator Simeon Ajibola, while the Ibolo bloc produced former Senator Rafiu Ibrahim and the incumbent senator, Lola Ashiru.

He stated that Ajibola served for about 11 years, while Ibrahim served one term and Ashiru would complete two terms by 2027.
According to him, the Igbomina bloc has only produced Senator Makanjuola Ajadi, who served for about five years.

“Based on the existing rotational arrangement and in the interest of fairness, equity and justice, it is the turn of the Igbomina bloc to produce the next senator for Kwara South in 2027,” Yahaya said.

The traditional ruler recalled that stakeholders from across the senatorial district met in November 2025 and endorsed the position that the next senator should emerge from the Igbomina bloc.

He appealed to political leaders and stakeholders to support the arrangement, saying it had contributed to peaceful coexistence and political stability in the district.
The endorsement comes ahead of growing political activities and consultations among parties and aspirants ahead of the 2027 general election.
