The Delta State Police Command has announced the arrest of three suspected drug traffickers and the recovery of large quantities of illicit drugs in separate intelligence-led operations across the state, describing the development as another major breakthrough in its ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking and substance abuse.

The Command disclosed this in a press statement shared on its verified Facebook page on Friday and signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command.

According to the statement, one of the operations led to the arrest of a suspect allegedly transporting a large consignment of hard drugs concealed in a truck at the First Niger Bridge Head in Asaba, the State capital.

“On 3 June 2026, operatives of the Special Enquiry Unit deployed on stop-and-search duty at the First Niger Bridge Head, inward Asaba, intercepted a Mercedes truck with registration number KRV 837 ZN driven by one Obinna Nwosu, male, aged 47 years, of Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State,” the statement said.

Police said the suspect initially claimed he was transporting plumbing materials, but a thorough search of the vehicle revealed a substantial cache of prohibited substances.

“The suspect claimed to be transporting plumbing materials; however, a meticulous search of the vehicle led to the recovery of thirteen thousand (13,000) sachets of 100mg Tramadol, one hundred (100) sachets of 225mg Tramadol, one hundred (100) sachets of Swinol, three hundred (300) sachets of Rohypnol, sixty (60) sachets of Codeine Phosphate tablets, and one hundred (100) tablets of Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), popularly known as ‘Molly’,” the statement revealed.

The Command stated that the suspect has been taken into custody, and that efforts were underway to identify and apprehend other individuals connected to the consignment.
