CAS Sets October 8 Hearing To Decide 2025 AFCON Title Dispute

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has scheduled a hearing for 8 October to determine the outcome of the dispute over the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title.

The case will be heard between the Senegalese Football Federation, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation.

At the centre of the appeal is CAF’s decision to declare that Senegal forfeited the 2025 AFCON, a ruling that resulted in Morocco being awarded the continental title.

The Senegalese Football Federation is seeking to overturn that decision, arguing that CAF’s ruling should be set aside and the outcome of the tournament reviewed.

According to CAS, the parties did not agree to fast-track the proceedings. As a result, the case will follow the standard procedural timetable set out under the court’s arbitration rules.

The hearing will be conducted behind closed doors.

Following the hearing, the CAS arbitration panel will begin its deliberations before issuing a final and binding decision on the matter.

The ruling is expected to bring legal clarity to one of the most contentious disputes in recent African football history, with the outcome set to determine the official winner of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
