COAS Sends Reinforcements To Combat Bandits In Kebbi

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has deployed additional troops to Kebbi State to strengthen security operations against persistent kidnappings and bandit attacks in parts of the state.

The reinforcements have been deployed to Yauri, Shanga and Ngaski Local Government Areas, following repeated incursions by armed bandits operating from neighbouring Zamfara, Niger and Kwara States.

Kebbi State governor, Nasir Idris, commended the Army Chief for responding to the state’s request for additional security personnel, describing the deployment as a major boost to ongoing efforts to restore peace in the affected communities.

Speaking during a visit to the troops’ camp in Yauri, the governor said he received confirmation of the deployment from the Emir of Yauri, Dr. Zayyanu Abdullahi, while attending the commissioning of a mosque in the area.

“I am happy that the Chief of Army Staff has answered our calls by deploying more troops to Kebbi State. Their presence will complement the efforts of other security agencies in combating banditry and other criminal activities in these areas,” Idris said.

The governor assured the soldiers of the state government’s full support, including the provision of logistics and an enabling environment to facilitate their operations.

He expressed confidence that the additional deployment would help curb the activities of bandits and improve security across the affected local government areas and other parts of the state.
