Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command have arrested three security personnel attached to First City Monument Bank (FCMB), Bauchi, over alleged criminal conspiracy, defamation, giving false information, obstruction of public officers in the lawful discharge of their duties and attempted obtaining of money by false pretence.

The suspects were identified as 30-year-old Usman Usman of Guru, Bauchi; 30-year-old Aliyu Musa of Yelwan Lebura; and 35-year-old Haruna Adamu of Rafin Tambari.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement yesterday, saying the incident occurred on August 9, 2026.

According to him, Usman and Musa reported at the ‘E’ Division, Yelwa, alleging that a police patrol team led by an Inspector had impounded their Bajaj motorcycle, with registration number BGR 393UM, during enforcement of the state executive order banning the night operation of commercial motorcycles and tricycles.

The duo alleged that the police personnel demanded money for the release of the motorcycle.

Nafiu said the complainants further claimed that when they returned with the money, the motorcycle was no longer at the impoundment area, prompting them to accuse the police of stealing it and demand N1.2 million as compensation.

He, however, said an intelligence-led investigation launched following the report established that the complainants and their accomplice had allegedly conspired to remove the motorcycle from the impoundment area.

“During the course of investigation, it was established that Usman Usman, Aliyu Musa, and another accomplice, 35-year-old Haruna Adamu of Rafin Tambari, also a security personnel attached to FCMB, conspired amongst themselves.

“While the attention of the Police team was focused on other offenders, the suspects surreptitiously used a spare key to remove the motorcycle from the impoundment area and concealed it in the residence of Haruna Adamu at Rafin Tambari,” the statement said.

Nafiu added that the three suspects subsequently reported the matter at ‘E’ Division and allegedly made false claims against the police personnel with the intention of obstructing them in the discharge of their official duties and defaming the Nigeria Police Force.

He said all three suspects had been arrested, while the motorcycle was recovered.

The police spokesman added that the investigation was ongoing and the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the preliminary investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, mni, condemned what he described as criminal conspiracy and deliberate misinformation against police officers.

He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to professionalism, integrity and accountability, while urging members of the public, particularly security personnel, to desist from acts capable of undermining public trust in security institutions.
