Management of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has hinted at the release of all passengers kidnapped recently at Tom Ikimi Railway Station at Igueben, in Edo State.

In a statement signed by the NRC’s deputy director of public relations, Mr. Mahmood Yakub, none of the abducted passengers was hurt.

He said apart from the state government and security agencies, the management lauded the families of victims for their patience during the period of their captivity.

Yakub decried the dastardly and wanton act of kidnapping innocent and law-abiding citizens adding that “It is a display of cowardice that must be condemned and not tolerated in any guise”.

The spokesperson enjoined communities residing along the railway corridors to be security conscious by reporting suspicious movement that is likely to cause breach of peace to the nearest security agency or community vigilante for quick intervention.

He added that such a move remains the surest way of keeping the society safe and protecting critical Federal government infrastructure located in their communities.

He posited that the corporation will continue to support the security agencies towards improving efforts of protecting Nigerian Railway Corporation facilities and installations such as trains, tracks, railway station and passengers.

It would be recalled that early this year, about 20 passengers waiting to board a train at Tom Ikimi train station in Edo State were kidnapped by unknown gunmen after shooting sporadically into the air.
