Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has signed a supplementary budget of ₦63.478 billion for the state and its 27 local government councils for the 2026 fiscal year.

The governor signed the appropriation bill after the Jigawa State House of Assembly passed it into law.

The supplementary budget provides ₦46.369 billion for the state and ₦17.109 billion for the 27 local government councils, bringing the combined additional appropriation to ₦63.478 billion.

The initial 2026 state budget stood at ₦901.84 billion, while the 27 local government councils had a combined budget of ₦288.85 billion.

Speaking after signing the supplementary budget, Namadi said the appropriation would ensure due process in public expenditure and enable the government to deliver more projects and programmes across the state.

He said the supplementary appropriation became necessary following additional revenue accrued to the state, which was presented to the House of Assembly for legislative approval in line with constitutional provisions.

According to him, the additional funds would create more opportunities for the state government and the 27 local government councils to implement projects and programmes under his administration’s 13-point agenda.

He said the programmes were aimed at improving public service delivery and the socio-economic wellbeing of residents.

Namadi charged ministries and departments to ensure full implementation of the supplementary budget to promote sustainable development in the state.

Earlier, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, said the legislature had reviewed the supplementary budget and made the necessary adjustments to ensure compliance with public expenditure requirements.

Also speaking after the passage of the bill, the Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, Ibrahim Hamza Adamu, said the House was satisfied with the implementation of the initial budget.

He said the additional appropriation would further strengthen public service delivery, particularly in the education and health sectors, which he described as critical areas.

Adamu added that the House would strengthen its oversight functions to ensure that projects and programmes captured in the budget were implemented as appropriated.

“The House is also determined to strengthen its oversight function to ensure that what was appropriated in the budget is fully implemented on the ground,” he said.
