Bauchi Man Beaten To Death For Stealing Watermelon

Youths in Dallaji community of Warji local government area of Bauchi State have lynched one Ado Sanya, a 40-year-old man for allegedly stealing seven pieces of watermelon.

LEADERSHIP Friday gathered that Sanya trespassed into the watermelon farm of one Mohammed Garba and went away with the seven pieces of watermelon fruits estimated to be worth N2,000.

Confirming the incident, the state commissioner of police, Aminu Alhassan, said a gang of furious youths from the community beat the suspect to death with sticks after they tied his hands with rope.

 He identified the youth as Mohammad Daluta aged 24years; Ibrahim Mahmud aged 22years; Bashir Mahmud aged 18years and Abdullahi Mahmud aged 22years, all of the same community.

“On receiving the report, a team of detectives were quickly drafted to the scene and evacuated the victim to General Hospital Warji for medical attention and referred them to Cottage Hospital Gwaram LGA, Jigawa State, where he was certified dead by the medical doctor.

“An investigation commenced in earnest, preliminary investigation revealed that the victim ‘Ibrahim Hashimu’ trespassed into a summer farm and stole seven pieces of watermelon fruit valued at N2,000, in the process of taking away the stolen items where the owner of the farm caught him on the spot conspired with others and beat him with sticks, as a result, he sustained an internal injury which led to his death.

“Consequently, all the above four suspects were successfully arrested and an investigation is still ongoing to explore all the intricacies surrounding the case,” he said.
