A survivor of the deadly attack on Naridom community in Chawai Chiefdom, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Mr. Yunana Rana has recounted how suspected bandits killed eight members of his family in a single night, describing the incident as the most devastating tragedy of his life.

Speaking with LEADERSHIP, the visibly distraught resident said the attackers invaded the village in the early hours of Monday, shooting sporadically into the air before descending on helpless residents.

According Rana, the sound of gunfire threw the entire community into panic as families scrambled for safety, while the assailants continued their assault without resistance.

Rana further alleged that after killing his mother, the attackers removed her eyes, describing the discovery as one of the most horrifying moments of the attack.

“They came at night and started shooting sporadically into the air. Everyone woke up in confusion because we didn’t know where the gunshots were coming from. People were running in different directions, trying to save their lives,” he recalled.

Rana said when the attack ended, he discovered that eight members of his family had been killed, leaving him devastated and struggling to cope with the magnitude of the loss.

He said those killed included his mother, brothers, niece and nephews, among them a two-year-old nephew whose death, he said, has left the family heartbroken.

“I lost eight members of my family in one night. They killed my mother, my brothers, my niece and my nephews. One of my nephews was just two years old. It is a pain I cannot describe,” he said.

The grieving resident said the attack has left many families in Naridom traumatised, with several residents displaced after the attackers also set homes and food shops ablaze during the invasion.

He appealed to the federal and Kaduna State governments to strengthen security in the area to prevent further attacks, saying residents now live in fear of another invasion.

Rana also urged the government and humanitarian organisations to come to the aid of affected families, noting that many survivors have lost not only their loved ones but also their homes and means of livelihood.

He further appealed for urgent medical intervention for those injured during the attack, saying several victims are in critical condition and require treatment in better-equipped hospitals.

The attack on Naridom community has triggered widespread condemnation from residents and stakeholders, who have renewed calls for decisive action by security agencies to halt the recurring attacks on vulnerable communities across Kaduna State.
