Abia State government has launched the exploration of solid minerals across the state to shore-up its internally generated revenue and create employment opportunities.
The commissioner for petroleum and minerals resources, Joel Ogbonna announced this at a joint press briefing after this week’s executive council meeting in Umuahia, the state capital.
He said the meeting, which was chaired by the governor, Alex Otti had noted that the state has about 17 mineral deposits including gold, kaolin, and limestone among others.
Contributing, the commissioner for transport, Sunny Onwuma said the administration is set to commission a computerised vehicle inspection centre in the state.
Onwuma explained that the centre was necessary to ascertain the number of vehicles operating in the state and their road worthiness to ensure their safety.
