The cultural landscape of Nigeria’s capital is set to vibrate with the rhythms and melodies of the 2025 Abuja International AfroJazz Festival in what organizers promise to be the most ambitious edition.

The 2025 festival scheduled to hold in November 21 promises to be robust, owing to an expanded collaboration with the Institut Français du Nigeria.

The partnership will bring an exceptional quartet from Montpellier, France, adding a distinctive European jazz interpretation to the festival’s traditionally Afrocentric programming.

“The cultural exchange between Nigerian and French musicians creates a unique dialogue that enriches both traditions,” said a spokesperson for the Institut Français. “This collaboration represents our commitment to fostering international artistic connections.”

Speaking about the event, the festival’s Founder and Artistic Director, Tosin Salako expressed excitement, saying what began as a local celebration of AfroJazz has evolved into a platform recognized on the international stage.

Salako who recently returned from JazzAhead in Germany, one of the world’s premier jazz industry gatherings noted that his presence at this influential event further cements the Abuja International AfroJazz Festival’s growing significance in the global music ecosystem.

“Having representation at JazzAhead opens doors for Nigerian artists and positions Abuja as an important node in the worldwide jazz network.”

The 2025 edition will feature performances across multiple venues in Abuja, masterclasses led by international artists, and community outreach programs designed to nurture the next generation of Nigerian jazz musicians.

Music enthusiasts have been urged to expect a rich event blending traditional West African rhythms with contemporary jazz innovations, creating the cross-cultural fusion that has become the festival’s hallmark.

As November approaches, anticipation builds for what many predict will be a watershed moment for jazz in Nigeria and a highlight of West Africa’s cultural calendar.
