The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has identified Abuja Steel Company as a potential buyer of stolen manhole covers, prompting an investigation.
The spokesperson for the FCT Minister, Lere Olayinka, made this known while providing an update on the situation in Abuja yesterday.
Olayinka stated that the company, situated along the Abuja–Kaduna Road, has had several items of interest recovered by the police.
“Investigations are ongoing to determine the company’s involvement, as well as that of others, in the removal, purchase, and melting of these stolen manhole covers,” he said.
He reminded the public that recent arrests and recoveries were announced the previous day by both the Police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
“Those taken into custody are currently assisting law enforcement with valuable information regarding the buyers of the vandalised infrastructure,” he said.
In response to this issue, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has initiated the replacement of the stolen manhole covers, with operations starting yesterday.
