An Anambra-based human rights activist and convener of the Recover Nigeria Project, Comrade Osita Obi, has directed all tricycle drivers, otherwise known as “Keke,” in the state to obtain a voter’s card to enable them to vote for the re-election of the incumbent governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, during the forthcoming November 8, 2025 governorship election in the state.

Comrade Osita told LEADERSHIP yesterday that even though he was not a tricycle driver he decided to mobilise the tricycle drivers for Soludo’s re-election because of his intervention and stoppage of all the illegal levies being extorted from them by touts, especially people who did not even own or drive a Keke.

He stated that contrary to the monthly levy of N8,000 each Keke operator currently pays to the state government, they were being extorted over N30,000 monthly before for various reasons that could not be accounted for.

The rights activist stated that due to the scramble for the hard-earned money of the Keke drivers cultists even infiltrated their ranks, and the situation contributed to the wave of insecurity in the state, a situation he said even claimed the lives of many of the Keke drivers themselves.

Obi, who is coordinating the Keke riders under the aegis of “Anambra State Keke Drivers Forum (AKDF)”, said that there were over 15,000 Keke Drivers across the state, and expressed optimism that with their support, Soludo’s re-election bid would be realised.

Earlier, the activist, during a press conference with the co-ordinators of the Keke drivers in various cities in the state, especially Awka, Ekwulobia, Onitsha, and Ogbaru, unveiled campaign stickers bearing the inscription “Soludo is the best; we must return him to complete the job” and ordered that every Keke driver paste the sticker on his Keke to drum up support for the governor’s re-election.

He stated that when the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) okays the commencement of the campaign for the governorship election, the stickers will be formally launched as campaign materials for the governor’s re-election.

Some leaders of the Keke drivers, including Mr. Ifeanyi Okafor, Ugochukwu Adiele, and Emmanuel Yahaya praised Soludo’s achievement since after the inauguration of his government and said that he merited re-election.
