Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has said that his government is partnering with the military to reconstruct some roads at the Gibson Jalo Cantonment, Yola, Adamawa State.
Fintiri made the pledge at the Nigerian Army Social Activities, held at the Cantonment,where he appreciated the military for their patriotism, courage and sacrifices in defending the nation’s territorial integrity.
The governor, represented by his deputy, Professor Kaletapwa George Farauta, said the appreciation of the military by the government and people of the state went beyond mere words, adding that sacrifice by the military was deeply respected.
Farauta said, “We will continue to partner with the military leadership to ensure that selected infrastructure like road network within the barracks received the attention it deserves.
“We are committed to ensuring that those who protect us are in turn appreciated and provided for. I wish to reaffirm our administration commitment to rendering the needed support to make you live, move and fight.”
She urged the military to use the celebration to recharge their spirits for onerous tasks of securing communities and borders of the state.
Earlier, the Commander, 23 Armoured Brigade Yola, Brigadier General Amechi Agwu, in a welcome address, acknowledged the support from the state government.
He reiterated his commitment to the philosophy of advancing the transformation of the Nigerian Army into a more professional, adaptable, combat ready, and resilient force capable of discharging their constitutional responsibilities within a joint and multi agency environment.
Highlights of the event included display of cultural dances and tug of war between the Nigeria Army and the Nigeria Airforce personnel as well as lighting of camp fire at the Parade Ground venue of the events.
