A House of Representatives aspirant under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Chiogo Ikokwu, has raised concerns over the high cost of nomination forms, saying the fees could restrict broader participation in Nigeria’s political process.
Ikokwu, who is seeking to represent Idemili North and South Federal Constituency, made her position known in a statement where she urged political parties to review the pricing of nomination forms.
She said the current cost structure may discourage participation by individuals without significant financial resources, including women, young people, and persons with disabilities.
According to her, political parties need to consider measures that would make the process more accessible to a wider range of aspirants.
Ikokwu, a former staff of Arise Television noted that reducing nomination fees could help create a more inclusive political environment and encourage participation based on capacity rather than financial strength.
She added that such steps may contribute to strengthening internal democracy within political parties and improving representation.
