Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has refuted reports suggesting that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) was denied access to Eagle Square for its convention, describing the allegations as unfounded and a ploy to gain public sympathy.

Speaking with journalists on Monday after an inspection tour of project sites, Wike challenged the affected party to provide proof of any formal application.

“Who denied them? I am not aware of any such development, and I don’t even know which party you are referring to,” Wike said.

The minister specifically addressed speculation involving the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
.
“If it is the African Democratic Congress (ADC), then I must say this: such claims are often attempts to gain public sympathy. As we speak, no formal application has been submitted to my office or any relevant authority for the use of Eagle Square,” he said.

Wike outlined the proper procedure for booking the iconic venue, stating that the process is transparent and accessible to all.

“The process is straightforward. Anyone who wishes to use Eagle Square must apply through the appropriate channel, specifically, the National Sports Commission, and make the required payment,” he explained.

Citing past examples, the minister noted that major political parties have successfully used the venue by following the rules.

“For example, when the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held its convention, it followed due process and paid the necessary fees. The same applies to the All Progressives Congress (APC),” he said.

He stressed that the FCT administration does not discriminate against any group.

“We do not deny any group access to the venue as long as they follow the established procedures. In fact, such events generate revenue for the government.

“Therefore, these claims are unfounded. If any party insists it was denied access, let them provide evidence of a formal application submitted and acknowledged by the relevant authorities,” he said.
