A philanthropist, Sir Kesington Adebutu, yesterday donated N4 billion to three local governments in Remoland, as well as his country home, Iperu Remo, to enhance the socio-economic well-being of the people in Ogun East Senatorial district.
The three LGAs, Sagamu, Remo North, and Ikenne, were each gifted N1 billion, while the remaining N1 billion would go to his country home, Iperu Remo, to reciprocate the surprise symposium organised by his kinsmen to mark his 90th birthday celebration.
Chief Adebutu announced the donation while speaking at the symposium themed, “Odole Odua: Symbol of Wealth Creation and Catalyst for Sustainable Development,” organised by the Iperu Akesan Development Association (IADA) to kick off the 90th birthday celebration of the business mogul.
On the occasion, the elated Pa Kensington expressed surprise at the community’s efforts in putting on such a programme to celebrate his modest contributions to making the world a better place.
Reciprocating the community’s warm reception, the lotto magnate said, “I am actually overwhelmed by this your action to show me love as I am celebrating my 90th birthday
“And I am going to beat the imagination of the Remo people. What you have done for me is an invitation to do more for the people and communities in Remo land.”
One of the panelists and vice chancellor of Ajayi Crowther, Oyo, Prof Ebun Oduwole, described Adebutu as “an extraordinary altruistic individual” who prioritises unquantifiable investment in humanity and deliberate efforts to make the world a better place.
Prof Oduwole said that the philanthropic gestures of nonagenarian spanned across the country in the area of health, education, empowerment, support for the vulnerable and communal development saying that he remains a legend worthy of emulation.
