Ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers between Nigeria and Sao Tome and Principe billed for the 30,000-capacity Godswill Akpabio International Stadium (Nest of Champions) in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital, key Super Eagles players expected to prosecute the encounter have arrived the training camp.

A mammoth crowd of fans thronged the Stadium on Thursday to catch a glimpse of the Nigerian soccer stars including Moses Simon, Kelechi Iheanacho and Samuel Chukwueze, whom, our Correspondent garthered, would blend up with some debutants, who had earlier hit the camp.

Some of the new entrants included Gift Orban, Victor Boniface and Jordan Torunarigha, who were joining the squad to make the camp bubbling, will participate in the first training session later Thursday evening.

Also, the national team of Sao Tome and Principe, Falcons and True Parrots, have arrived Uyo, state capital in readiness for the encounter.

The team consisting of 15 players and five officials, led by Coach Adriano Eusebio, touched down at the Victor Attah International Airport at 12:25pm Thursday, and were received by the Akwa Ibom State Football Normalization Committee including the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Sports to the State Governor, Elder Paul Bassey

However, speaking on the match, a football analyst, Sampson Sampson, enthused that the encounter was a less-crucial one as it is just a formality.

“The Central African nation, is in Uyo, the state capital to keep a date with the Super Eagles in a mere formality game, because, even if they are searching for their first victory in Group ‘A’ after four defeats and a draw, the truth is that regardless of the outcome on Sunday, Eusébio’s side will remain at the bottom rung of the table,” he stated.
