African U18/U20 Athletics Championship: South Africa, Kenya, Ethiopia, Others Confirm Arrival Dates

As the countdown to the highly anticipated CAA African U18/U20 Athletics Championships Intensifies, excitement is mounting at major Nigerian airports, with just seven days to go until the event kicks off.

Leading athletics powerhouses from across Africa, including South Africa, Kenya, Ethiopia, and Uganda, have confirmed their travel dates and final team rosters, heightening anticipation for this prestigious competition.

In a statement released by Kola Daniel, a media representative for the local organising committee, it was revealed that South Africa is set to arrive with one of the largest contingents, comprising 42 male athletes, 40 female athletes, and 18 officials, bringing their total delegation to 100. Kenya, another formidable force in athletics, will field a delegation of 67 members, including 25 male athletes, 25 female athletes, and 17 officials.

Ethiopia is also expected to send a strong team, with 30 male athletes, 27 female athletes, and 12 officials, totalling 69 participants. Meanwhile, Uganda, which has been making strides in athletics, will be represented by 9 male athletes, 13 female athletes, and 6 officials, culminating in a delegation of 28.

The MKO Abiola International Stadium in Abeokuta is set to host over 900 athletes and officials from at least 40 countries, marking this championship as one of the largest continental youth athletics gatherings in recent history.

Preparations are underway for a vibrant opening ceremony, followed by a week of elite performances showcasing Africa’s next generation of track and field stars.
