In its bid to ensure total peace and a free rerun election in Kaura-Namoda South Constituency tomorrow (Thursday), the Zamfara Police have deployed an Assistant Inspector of Police, Muhammad Hussaini Gumel, and the Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State Command, Mohammed Rabi’u, to lead a large number of other security personnel.
The Independent National Electoral Commission had fixed Thursday for the rerun polls in the five polling units of Sakajiki and Kyambarawa wards following the cancellation of over 3,000 votes in the last Saturday bye-election.
Addressing the troops at the headquarters of the Zamfara Police Command, the Assistant Inspector General of Police in Charge of the rerun polls, Mohammed Hussaini Gumel, said the police, in collaboration with sister security agencies, will ensure the safety of the electorates, INEC staff, and election materials.
The troops deployed for the rerun election at Kaura-Namoda South Constituency comprise the Nigerian Police, the Federal Road Safety, the Correctional Service, and the Federal Fire Service.
According to AIG, the police will perform their duty professionally; therefore, they urged the officers to avoid any unholy act and work together to ensure the election’s success.
The police boss also warned the troops to distance themselves from electorates wanting an assistant to thumbprint the ballot paper.
He warned that political party officials are not allowed around polling units and collation centres and insisted that only political party agents will be allowed at the polling unit.
In his remarks, the Commissioner of Police, Kaduna Command, Mohammed Rabi’u, said vote buying and political thuggery would not be condoned throughout the exercise.
The CP directed the troops to arrest anyone found with weapons at any of the polling units and warned the general public to observe the restriction of movement in the affected areas to ensure the smooth conduct of the exercise.
