Activist and prominent supporter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Aisha Yesufu, has criticised Channels Television journalist Seun Okinbaloye and other media practitioners over what she described as the disproportionate scrutiny of the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, compared to other presidential hopefuls, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Speaking in a video posted on her Instagram page, Yesufu expressed frustration over the line of questioning during Obi’s recent appearance on Channels Television’s One-on-One, arguing that the former Anambra State governor is repeatedly asked the same questions while other political figures are spared similar interrogation.

“I don’t think there’s any question that Seun asked Peter Obi that has not already been asked. It’s the same conversation again and again,” she said.

Yesufu questioned why Obi continues to face what she described as intense media scrutiny while other presidential candidates are not subjected to the same level of accountability.

“More pressure is being put on Peter Obi. ‘What do you want to do with insecurity? What do you want to do with this?’ There are other candidates, nothing is being said about them,” she stated.

Taking a swipe at President Tinubu, the activist alleged that the President has largely avoided difficult media interviews.

“Nobody is asking him tough questions. He’s not in front of the camera. Yet the one person who cares, who has been out there speaking to the people, is the one that more and more is needed from him,” she said.

Yesufu also addressed the controversy surrounding Obi’s recent remarks about “Muslim commissioners,” arguing that critics had misconstrued his comments.

According to her, Obi was referring to Commissioners of Police and not members of a state executive council, as some critics had suggested.

She urged Nigerians to focus on addressing the country’s pressing challenges rather than repeatedly questioning the former Labour Party presidential candidate.

“I don’t think there’s anything about Peter Obi that you need to know that you’ve not heard already,” she said.

The activist concluded by warning Nigerians against what she described as “self-sabotage,” saying the country has “capacity to deal with everybody” if citizens fail to make the right political choices.

Her comments come amid renewed political debates following Obi’s television appearance which aired on Sunday, July 26, 2026, on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, where he was interviewed by Seun Okinbaloye. The interview focused on his 2027 presidential ambition, his policy proposals and his criticisms of the Tinubu administration. The interview quickly became one of the most discussed political programmes on social media because Okinbaloye repeatedly questioned Obi on how he would implement his promises if elected. Obi defended his record and criticised the Tinubu administration’s handling of the economy and insecurity. Supporters praised him for appearing for another lengthy live interview, while critics argued he did not provide enough specifics on some policy questions.
