Some anti-APC elements are allegedly determined to impede the emergence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates for the Senate presidency. Their plot became evident when Kalu publicly announced his alliance with Yari to obstruct the President’s candidates.

In their pursuit to undermine the government, Yari and Kalu aim to allegedly recreate the scenario witnessed in 2015 when Senator Bukola Saraki, with support from opposition lawmakers, defied the directive of President Muhammadu Buhari and the party to become Senate President. Their actions threaten party unity and disregard the wishes of the electorate.

Kalu, a former governor of Abia State, previously served as the director-general of Senate President Ahmad Lawan’s campaign organization during his unsuccessful presidential bid. Despite Lawan’s endorsement by a section of the presidency during the APC’s presidential primary last year, Tinubu emerged as the party’s flag bearer and won the general election. However, Kalu’s current fight against Tinubu suggests a larger agenda to hijack the parliament and destabilize Tinubu’s administration, mirroring the strategies employed during the Saraki era.

Kalu’s recent statement to the press revealed his ongoing discussions and partnership with Yari, leaving many curious about their sponsors. Speculations suggest that the Presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar, and former Senate President Bukola Saraki might be supporting their endeavors.

Yari, despite owing his political success to the APC has allegedly worked against the party’s interests during the governorship election in Zamfara State, leading to a victory for the PDP.

The APC, in its efforts to ensure a fair race for the National Assembly leadership positions, has allocated the position of Senate President to the South-south and the Deputy Senate President to the North-west.

This zoning aims to achieve balance and inclusion within the party. The APC has also designated specific senators for these roles, including Akpabio for the Senate Presidency and Jibrin Barau, the current chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, as Deputy Senate President.

Despite the majority of APC senators-elect accepting these decisions, Kalu, Yari, and their associates attempting to allegedly  subvert the process by frustrating Akpabio and Barau’s emergence. Their actions threaten party cohesion and hinder the smooth functioning of the government.

This plot poses a significant challenge to President Tinubu’s Senate candidacy. Their intentions to hijack the parliament and destabilize Tinubu’s administration must be met with vigilance and swift action to protect the interests of the APC and the Nigerian people.
