Amaechi Defeats Atiku, Hayatu-Deen in Bayelsa ADC Primary

Former Rivers State Governor and immediate past Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has emerged as the winner of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary election in Bayelsa State.

 

Amaechi defeated former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and businessman Mohammed Hayatu-Deen by a wide margin in the direct primary election conducted across the 105 wards in the eight local government areas of the state on Monday.

 

The results were announced on Tuesday at the ADC Collation Centre in Yenagoa by the Chairman of the ADC Presidential Primaries Committee in Bayelsa State and Returning Officer, Commodore Promise Dappa (retd.).

 

According to the results declared, Amaechi polled 44,404 votes to defeat Atiku, who scored 6,570 votes, while Hayatu-Deen garnered 939 votes.

 

Commodore Dappa said a total of 56,356 party members were registered for the exercise, out of which 53,298 were accredited to vote.

 

He added that 51,913 votes were validly cast, while 1,785 votes were rejected during the exercise.

Declaring the result, Dappa said: “By the powers conferred on me as the Chairman of the presidential primary election in Bayelsa State and also the Returning Officer of the presidential primary election in the state, I hereby declare Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi as the winner of the ADC presidential primary election in Bayelsa State, having polled the highest number of votes in the state.”
