Residents of Ogwumogbo and other communities in Agatu local government area of Benue State have continued to flee the area due to sustained attacks and killing of their people by suspected armed herdsmen whom they said were crossing from borders in Nasarawa State.
A local who did not want his name in print in a WhatsApp message said there is serious shooting at Ogwumogbo “right now and people are running into the bush and so far, eight corpses have been picked.”
According to him, “Ogwumogbo, Ikpele, Ejima and Okpokpolo have all deserted their homes in tick bushes as we speak, we lost eight healthy young men to the yesterday night attacks and still counting.”
Our correspondent report that the latest killings has brought the number of those who died in the sustained attacks to 40, while scores sustained varying degrees of injuries.
When contacted, the Benue State police spokesperson said she was yet to receive briefings about the killings.
An officer of the Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), said, “I have no update on Agatu invasion,” while the telephone number of the security adviser to the governor was switched off when our correspondent called to get his views and update on the Agatu killings.
