A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, Faizu Alfindiki, has criticised former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, over his perceived closeness to the political movement of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Speaking with journalists in Kano yesterday, Alfindiki questioned Kwankwaso’s political direction, accusing him of failing to prioritise northern unity at a time the region required stronger cooperation among its political leaders.

Alfindiki, a former chairman of the Kano Municipal Council, said many northerners were surprised that Kwankwaso appeared more interested in aligning with Obi’s camp instead of building consensus among influential northern politicians.

According to him, the North needs greater unity among its political elite to safeguard the region’s interests and strengthen its position in national politics.

“Many people in the North view this move as a failure to prioritise regional unity, especially since major leaders are expected to focus more on uniting the North and protecting its interests,” Alfindiki stated.

He also alleged that Obi had not shown sufficient concern for critical Northern challenges, including insecurity, agriculture, and economic development.

“He is rarely heard speaking on major Northern challenges in the way many people would expect from someone seeking broad support from the region,” he added.

Alfindiki further claimed that Kwankwaso’s reluctance to work closely with other heavyweight Northern politicians had created the impression that his political decisions were driven more by personal ambition than collective regional interest.

“In politics, one is judged by one’s stance and the alliances they build. The people of the North need leaders who will unite to ensure the region’s development and protect its political integrity,” he said.

He, however, commended the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as visible developmental projects across the North, particularly in infrastructure, road construction and agriculture.
