Archbishop Akinde’s Wife Passes On

Dr. (Mrs.) Bassey Akinde, wife of the Most Revd Adebayo Akinde, pioneer Anglican Lagos Mainland bishop and retired Lagos Province Archbishop, has passed on.

She died at the weekend in a Lagos hospital at the age of 77.

She is survived by her husband, three sons, and several grandchildren.

Mrs Akinde retired as a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Pharmacy at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife.
Mrs Akinde holds a B.Pharm degree from Ife and an M.Phil degree from Sussex University, UK.

She was a constant presence during Archbishop Akinde’s ten years in the Lagos Mainland Diocese, directing the Women’s and Girls Organization of the Diocese.

Akinpelu Johnson and several church leaders have sent condolence messages to the Akindes, extolling her supportive role in Archbishop Akinde’s episcopacy. Funeral plans will be announced later.
