Arsenal’s dramatic 3-2 home defeat to Manchester United has been voted the Premier League Match of the Season for 2025/26, securing 50 per cent of votes cast by fans.

The pulsating encounter at the Emirates Stadium on 2 December emerged as the clear winner from a 12-match shortlist, finishing ahead of Manchester United’s thrilling 4-4 draw with Bournemouth and Manchester City’s 5-4 victory over Fulham.

The contest delivered all the ingredients of a classic Premier League spectacle, with five goals, momentum swings and a late winner.

Arsenal made the brighter start and took the lead through a Lisandro Martínez own goal. However, Bryan Mbeumo restored parity for United after capitalising on a misplaced pass from Martin Zubimendi.

The visitors turned the game around shortly after the restart when Patrick Dorgu rifled home a superb effort that struck the underside of the crossbar before finding the net.

Mikel Merino then brought Arsenal level again, heading in from a Bukayo Saka corner to set up a tense finale.

With the match seemingly heading for a draw, Matheus Cunha produced the decisive moment, curling a magnificent 25-yard strike beyond the goalkeeper to seal a memorable victory for United.

The result ended Arsenal’s 17-match unbeaten home run in all competitions and saw Manchester United become the first side in almost 16 years to defeat the Premier League’s top two teams in successive league fixtures.

It was also the first time Arsenal had conceded three goals in a league match in 121 outings, while Bruno Fernandes reached another personal milestone. His assist for Dorgu’s goal marked his 200th Premier League goal involvement, achieved in just 312 appearances.

Other Classics That Lit Up the Season

Although the Arsenal-United showdown claimed top honours, several other fixtures captivated supporters throughout the campaign.

Manchester United 4-4 Bournemouth

Old Trafford witnessed one of the season’s most remarkable draws as eight different players got on the scoresheet in a breathless encounter.

United led 2-1 at half-time but found themselves trailing 3-2 early in the second period. Goals from Matheus Cunha and Bruno Fernandes appeared to have secured victory for the hosts before substitute Junior Kroupi curled home a stunning late equaliser for Bournemouth.

The visitors nearly snatched all three points in stoppage time, with David Brooks twice coming agonisingly close to a winner.

Fulham 4-5 Manchester City

Craven Cottage staged a nine-goal thriller that had fans and pundits alike struggling to keep up with the action.

The match featured a landmark moment for Erling Haaland, who scored his 100th Premier League goal, reaching the milestone 13 matches quicker than the previous record-holder, Alan Shearer.

There was also a stunning strike from Phil Foden and a rapid-fire brace from Samuel Chukwueze that ensured a frantic finish.

Manchester City eventually secured a 19th consecutive victory over Fulham, but only after a dramatic goal-line clearance from Josko Gvardiol deep into stoppage time.

The fan vote ultimately confirmed what many supporters felt immediately after the final whistle at the Emirates: Arsenal and Manchester United’s five-goal classic was the standout match of a Premier League season packed with drama, goals and unforgettable moments.
