Asharami Energy, a Sahara Group Upstream Company, has restated its commitment to promote inclusive growth and local content development within Nigeria’s energy landscape through strategic investments, responsible operations, and collaborative partnerships with stakeholders in the upstream value chain.

At the fifth edition of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Opportunity Fair (NOGOF), chief technical officer of Asharami Energy, Leste Aihevba, emphasised the vital need for enhanced local capacity development and engagement to significantly bolster Nigeria’s energy security.

Aihevba acknowledged the ongoing industry trend of increasing local expertise involvement, which is essential for fostering stability, driving innovation, ensuring seamless operations, and supporting sustainable production—all critical components for Nigeria’s economic development.

He highlighted that Asharami Energy has achieved nearly 100 per cent local content participation, with local service providers delivering all but the most complex technologies.

He noted that the company’s innovative collaboration model and commitment to capacity-building initiatives reflect its dedication to making a positive impact in the sector.

“Our message at NOGOF 2025 is clear: Asharami Energy is not only focused on asset development but also on empowering people and communities, fostering shared prosperity. The true measure of our success lies not solely in the volumes of oil produced but in the value and positive impacts we create,” Aihevba stated.

Differentiating between national local content initiatives and local community engagement, Aihevba highlighted the company’s gas-to-power project in the Ajoki community, where residents benefit from reliable electricity, promoting clean energy and environmental sustainability.

“The company also partners the University of Benin Consultancy Services to offer vocational training programs, equipping up to 20 young community members annually with essential skills,” he said.

He added that the company invests in infrastructure improvements in host communities, facilitating better access to markets and opportunities, while also organising health and educational programs to enhance quality of life.

Under the theme ‘Driving Investment and Production Growth: Shaping a Sustainable Future for Nigeria’s Oil and Gas Industry Through Indigenous Capacity Development’, NOGOF 2025 in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, serves as a vital platform for high-level discussions and exhibitions, highlighting strategies to enhance local capacity in alignment with Nigeria’s energy transition goals.

Held biennially, NOGOF is an industry event organised by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) to showcase investment prospects throughout Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, attracting key stakeholders from upstream, midstream, and downstream segments.
