In solidarity and academic support, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU), Bauchi, has awarded scholarships to three indigent students.
Our correspondent reports that the awards were presented to the recipients on Thursday at the university’s Gadau Campus.
The scholarship beneficiaries are Khadija Usman, a 300-level student from the Pharmacy Department; Zubairu Adamu Hassan, a 300-level Library and Information Science student; and Abubakar Ibrahim, a 400-level Mathematics student.
The chairperson of ASUU SAZU, Comrade Auwal Hussain, said the initiative was a product of sacrifice and compassion, explaining that the funds came directly from the hard-earned salaries of academic staff.
“These students were selected purely on merit,” Hussaini emphasised.
“We urge you to make judicious use of the scholarship to pursue your education and serve as a beacon of hope to others,” Comrade Hussain added.
Comrade Sani Aliyu, president of the university’s Students Representative Council (SRC), commended the gesture, describing it as “inspiring and commendable.”
He added, “This will surely motivate other students, and we, the SRC, will emulate this kind of support system.”
Comrade Aliyu explained that the gesture is seen as a bold reminder of the role of unions in advocating for staff welfare and uplifting the student community.
