Atiku, ADC Condole El-Rufai Over Mother’s Death

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has led a wave of condolences following the death of Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, mother of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

In a solemn message on his verified X account on Friday, Atiku expressed shock over the development, describing the late matriarch as a woman of faith who lived a life of dignity and service.

“Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. The news of the demise of Hajiya Umma El-Rufai is a shocking development,” he said. “I extend my heartfelt condolences to the El-Rufai family and pray that Allah (SWT) accepts her soul and grants her Al-Janna Firdaus.”

He further noted that her passing on a Friday, a sacred day in Islam, offers some measure of consolation to the grieving family.

Similarly, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) said it was saddened by the death of the mother of one of its leaders, Mallam Nasiru El-Rufai.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party condoled with the family, especially at this difficult time, and prayed to Almighty Allah to grant her Al-Jannah and forgive her shortcomings.

Hajiya Umma El-Rufai died on Friday, according to a family announcement made by her grandson in a Facebook post.
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. From Allah SWT we came, and to Him we shall all return. I would like to inform the public of the demise of my grandmother, who passed away a few hours ago,” he wrote.

The grandson described the deceased as a devoted mother and matriarch, expressing gratitude for her life and calling on the public to remember the family in prayers.

“We are grateful for the life she lived, and may Allah SWT bless her gentle soul. On behalf of our family, we seek your prayers,” he added.

As of the time of filing this report, details surrounding the cause of her death had not been disclosed.

The development comes amid ongoing legal challenges involving Nasir El-Rufai, who is reportedly facing scrutiny from anti-corruption agencies, including the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
