Nigeria’s flag bearers at the upcoming Basketball Africa League (BAL) Championship in Morocco, the MakTown Flyers, have received a strong vote of confidence and a rallying call to excel on the continental stage.
Basketball promoter and ardent supporter, Igoche Mark, visited the team’s training camp in Abuja over the weekend, urging the players to raise their intensity and showcase Nigeria’s resilience and strength.
Speaking during the visit, Mark expressed belief in the squad’s technical quality but stressed the need for greater determination and consistency.
“We are solid technically, but we must put in more effort and show the world that we are strong, resilient and never back down,” he said.
Mark also reaffirmed his commitment to the team’s welfare, pledging to ensure they are well-supported as they prepare for the continental assignment.
“On our part, we will do everything possible to ensure your comfort. It is a two-way responsibility — we will play our part, and you must also play yours,” he added.
In a further show of solidarity, Mark disclosed plans to travel with the team to Morocco, expressing confidence that the Flyers can make both the club and the nation proud.
“To demonstrate my support, I will be with you in Morocco to cheer you on. I believe this team will make Nigeria proud,” he said.
Team captain Bright Akuiete responded with gratitude, assuring supporters that the squad is determined to deliver.
“We appreciate your continued support and we promise to make you proud,” Akuiete said.
The MakTown Flyers, under the guidance of head coach Abdur Rahman Muhammad, secured their place at the BAL Championship after emerging champions of the 2025 Nigeria Basketball League, defeating Rivers Hoopers in a thrilling final.
The team’s rise has also been credited to the vision and leadership of club proprietor Akerannan Manusseh Achii, whose commitment has been widely praised.
With preparations in full swing, expectations are high as the MakTown Flyers aim to make a strong impression in Morocco, carrying the hopes of Nigerian basketball fans onto the continental stage.
