The Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) has announced that by-elections into Zubo and Mainako Wards of Shira and Zaki Local Government Areas will be held on Tuesday, January 6, 2026.
The Executive Chairperson of BASIEC, Jummai Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement by the Commission’s Information Officer, Ishiyaku Adamu, in Bauchi on Tuesday.
Abubakar stated that the decision was in compliance with the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), the Bauchi State Electoral Law of 2008 (as amended), and other relevant enabling laws.
She said the election will be held across Zubo Ward in Shira Local Government Area and Mainako Ward in Zaki Local Government Area on January 6, 2026.
The Commission’s chairperson also disclosed that the by-election, initially scheduled for Tumfafi Ward in Shira Local Government Area, originally planned for December 2025, has been postponed. The chairperson noted that the exercise has now been rescheduled to coincide with the January 2026 polls.
She further directed political parties and aspirants to obtain nomination papers from the respective Shira and Zaki Local Government Electoral Offices.
BASIEC emphasised that the notice serves as a formal notification to voters and stakeholders in Tumfafi and Zubo wards of Shira Local Government Area, as well as Mainako Ward in Zaki Local Government Area, that the elections will take place as scheduled.
She urged all eligible voters and stakeholders to prepare for the exercise and participate peacefully in the electoral process.
