Bauchi State first lady, Hajiya Aisha Bala Mohammed, has emphasised the need for peace and harmony between Muslims and Christians, describing it as the foundation for building a stronger and safer society.
Speaking on Saturday at a meeting with Christian religious leaders in Bauchi, organised by her office under the theme, “Seeking the Face of God for Righteous Living in Challenging Times,” Aisha noted that both Islam and Christianity share universal values of love, compassion, tolerance and justice.
“This gathering marks the second phase of our peace initiative. Not long ago, we held a similar programme with the Muslim Ummah, and today, by the grace of God, we continue with our Christian brethren. This continuity shows that peace is not the property of one religion nor the desire of one community; it is the shared aspiration of all humanity,” she said.
She stressed that in a world facing economic, social and moral challenges, people must not only rely on human wisdom but also return to God in humility, prayer and righteous living, “For it is only in righteousness that peace can truly take root,” she added.
The first lady further warned against rising moral decay, particularly among young people.
She lamented the erosion of values such as respect, honesty, modesty and accountability, pointing to the growing influence of materialism, substance abuse and violence.
Earlier, the chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Bauchi State, Rev. Abraham Damina Dimeus, commended the government for promoting inclusiveness in governance.
Represented by the state secretary of the association, Rev. Matthew Laslimbo, the CAN chairman commended the first lady for convening the peace meeting at a time the nation requires divine intervention.
