Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed has approved the reappointment of Professor Asabe Mohammed, for a second term as the Provost of Aminu Saleh College of Education (ASCOE), Azare.
The tenure renewal came amid opposition to Prof. Mohammed’s reappointment by the Bauchi State House of Assembly.
The decision for her reappointment followed a stakeholders’ meeting held on Friday with Governor Mohammed, Commissioner for Higher Education, Dr. Lydia Haruna Tsammani, Chairman and members of the College’s Governing Council, the Provost, leadership of academic and non-academic staff unions, the Student Union President, and Chairman, Committee on Education of the State House of Assembly.
The meeting provided a platform for all parties to present their concerns and grievances, with Governor Bala emphasising the importance of unity and collaboration for the progress of the institution.
LEADERSHIP recalls that the chairman of the House Committee on Petition, Hon. Abdullahi Yusuf Itas had during House plenary on Thursday, presented a report against the reappointment of the Provost, citing several complaints against her leadership.
Lawmakers had argued that the decision was in the best interest of accountability and stability at the College.
However, Governor Mohammed intervened, urging all stakeholders to put the institution’s development above personal differences.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening tertiary education across the state.
Speaking with LEADERSHIP on Saturday shortly after her reappointment, Prof. Mohammed expressed her gratitude to the Governor and all those who supported her.
Professor Mohammed noted that the recent challenges had strengthened her resolve to deliver on the College’s goals and objectives.
She further said, “This reappointment is a testament to the collective effort and dedication of the College community. Together, we achieved significant milestones during my first term, and I look forward to building on that success.”
The Provost assured that her administration would continue to focus on academic excellence, infrastructure development, and institutional stability.
“I am excited about what the future holds and ready to continue leading the College forward. May Almighty Allah grant us wisdom, strength, and courage to discharge our duties diligently and in accordance with the law,” she said.
