Chancellor of Mountain Top University (MTU) and general overseer of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries Worldwide, Dr Daniel Kolawole Olukoya, has challenged Nigerian graduates to be change agents by addressing the country’s developmental and governance problems.
Olukoya spoke at the university’s seventh convocation over the weekend at Prayer City, Ogun State, where he reiterated the institution’s commitment to raising leaders who will reshape Nigeria by providing solutions to the country’s challenges.
He appealed to the graduates to aspire to be purposeful leaders and not sacrifice their destiny on the altar of impatience.
The eminent clergyman said, “Don’t join the crowd, be a solution-minded Nigerian. We have been producing morally-sound, academically-excellent and hardworking graduates who are well-equipped with vocational skills to be self-independent and employers of labour.”
He, therefore, urged the graduates to be shining examples of MTU and to be focused in life, guided by integrity and determined to make society better.
His wife, Dr Folashade Elizabeth Olukoya, pledged to continue positively impacting students, especially females, through mentorship.
The Akwa Ibom State governor, Pastor Umo Eno, who delivered the convocation lecture titled “Dream Big, Start Small,” urged the graduates to have bold dreams and anchor their journeys to success on humble beginnings, hard work and strong character.
Eno said, “Dream big, start small, be passionate, work twice as hard, and watch the invisible hands of God lift you to heights you never imagined possible.”
He cautioned that the pursuit of instant gratification without corresponding effort often leads to frustration and moral decline, but expressed confidence that the moral and intellectual foundation imparted by MTU to them would distinguish the graduates as leaders, innovators, and change-makers.
“You don’t need to be great to start, but you need to start to be great,” Governor Eno quoted motivational speaker Zig Ziglar as saying, “dream big about impact. Start small with service. Grow steadily through character and competence.”
