Benue State House of Assembly has suspended four legislators for three months over alleged conspiracy and attempting to cause chaos in the House.
Those suspended include Alfred Aondoaver Emberga of Makurdi North Constituency, Shimawua Emmanuel Kyan Constituency, Cyril Ikong Oju 2 Constituency and Abu Umoru of Apa constituency.
The speaker, Hyacinth Dajoh, gave the approval following a motion moved by the Majority Leader, Saater Tiseer, titled: “Motion to suspend Hon. Alfred Aondoaver Emberga (Makurdi North State Constituency) and three others from legislative duties for an attempt to cause chaos in the House.”
The mover of the motion informed the House that on August 20, the House, in the spirit of unity, passed a vote of confidence on its leadership and Governor Hyacinth Alia. However, three days after, Emberga and the three others went behind to mobilise other members to cause chaos.
He condemned the dishonourable actions and urged the members to suspend the affected members from legislative duties for six months.
In their contributions, Elias Audu of Gwer East Constituency and the Majority Chief Whip, Hon. Peter Ipusu of Katsina/Ala West constituency, condemned the acts and supported the motion.
In his ruling, the speaker announced the suspension on the affected members and directed the Sergeant at Arms to lead them out of the chambers.
He further appointed the Elias Audu as the spokesman of the Assembly following the suspension of Ermberga who was the spokesman. Dougulas Ackya was also elevated to Chief Whip and Kennedy Angbo is Deputy Minority Leader.
The House also screened and confirmed additional four commissioner nominees including Dr. Ortese Yanmar, Dr. Fredrick Ikyaan, Manasseh Alumo and Michael Oglegbe.
