The managing director of the commission, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, said at ceremony to mark the 2024 World Maritime Day in Minna yesterday that it was aimed at reducing the risks in inland water transportation.

He said it would improve commercial activities and reduce boat mishaps along inland waterways. He urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the boats, ensure maintenance culture and safety in water transportation.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the commission to the well-being of all the riverine communities within its areas of operation, saying it would work tirelessly to enhance water transportation and reduce boat accidents.
