No fewer than six persons have been killed following an attack by suspected Boko Haram terrorists on Bambatsu and Ngadarma villages in Mbalala Ward, Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State.
Sources and residents confirmed that a 12-hour-old baby girl also died after reportedly suffocating when her mother, who was still in pain, hid inside a toilet while attempting to escape the attackers.
The insurgents were said to have launched the coordinated attack at about 7pm on Thursday before proceeding to nearby Mussa community in Askira-Uba Local Government Area.
Residents said the attackers, suspected to be the same group behind earlier assaults on Mussa Primary and Secondary Schools, killed five persons in Bambatsu and one in Ngadarma, while also destroying houses, livestock, and food supplies.
A resident, Mr. Paul Mauntayhaga, said the victims had been buried on Friday in line with religious rites.
He described the attack as devastating and called for urgent intervention to protect vulnerable communities from repeated violence.
“The people of Chibok are calling for urgent help and protection as communities continue to suffer from repeated attacks and loss of innocent lives.
“Families are in pain, many people have been displaced, and fear continues to grow among our people. We are calling on the government, security agencies, humanitarian organisations, and well-meaning Nigerians to come to the aid of Chibok communities before more lives are lost,” he added.
