Founder of Think Pink Initiative, a Non-governmental organisation for breast cancer awareness in Kaduna, Fatima Kabiru Alkali has urged women to examine their breasts regularly in order to stop the spread of breast cancer.
Alkali, who made the call yesterday during an interview with LEADERSHIP said that all women should check their breasts for lumps, thickness and other changes every month.
“By examining your breasts regularly, you will know how your breasts normally feel. If a change should happen in your breasts, you will be able to identify it and let your doctor know,” she said.
She disclosed that Think Pink Initiative has screened over 700 women for breast cancer, saying that breast cancer is curable if detected early.
According to her, “We started in 2022 and we have screened over 700. We had eight patients diagnosed last year and we lost two of them. For this year we have three patients that have been confirmed”.
“We are trying to see how we can fund their treatment because everything about cancer is expensive. We need more support so that we can be able to pay their hospital bills.
“Cancer is curable if you detect it early and that is why we are promoting early detection, whenever you see something that has not been there, if you feel any change not just the breast in any other part of your body just go to the hospital and confirm that it is normal before you just decide to live with it.”
