The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Thursday in Kaduna carried out massive awareness creation and sensitisation in Kaduna markets on the eNaira, an electronic legal tender initiated to complement cash and further ease of transacting businesses.

Leading the awareness campaign, deputy director of CBN from the headquarters in Abuja Alhaji Mohammed Hamisu Musa who briefed newsmen shortly after meeting with Kawo traders at the Kawo District Head’s office said, it was time for Nigerians to key into the e Naira wallet because of its numerous advantages .

According to him, “I am part of the eNaira team, we are here on the eNaira awareness and sensitization mission to Kawo market.

“We are working with partners to go into the nooks and crannies. We are also working with community leaders, we are with the District Head of Kawo to also get his support to see how we can push the message far into the community as much as possible.

“The message is to preach the eNaira and the eNaira is nothing but another representation of cash, the same Naira we are used to; is what e-Naira is coming to complement.

“eNaira is trying to complement the cash as well as trying to address the well known issues we usually have with cash such as robbery and insecurity .You could loose your money through fire incident and so many other ways.

“So the electronic version was brought out by the Central Bank to address all these kind of issues as well as enhance transaction. It can allow people to do their transactions in an easier and better way. Better than even using the physical cash.

“We are not only engaging the public directly, we also engage Government agencies which we now have alot of use cases. We are hoping that in no time, the eNaira will become a household name,”he said.

Earlier, the District Head of Kawo, Alhaji Mohammed Jibril Magaji, urged the traders to take advantage of the eNaira, noting that if the eNaira platform worked in other parts of the world, it could also work in Nigeria if the people are adequately sensitised.

The District Head while commending the apex bank, described Kawo as a business area, adding that most of the traders were not aware of the eNaira and urged them to intensify the awareness campaign for all to be carried along effectively.

He therefore called on the traders to embrace the eNaira, noting that it was an easy and trusted way of transacting business, adding that their monies are very safe and secured.

“I have been seeing this eNaira but I don’t know what it is all about, but with the coming of CBN eNaira team to sensitise our traders, ini whave a better understanding of what it is all about,”he said.

The CBN eNaira team was also at the Sheikh Gumi Central market Kaduna where they carried out same sensitization among traders on the advantages of the eNaira and why it should be embraced by all and sundry.
