China has launched a new Mandarin language education programme aimed at deepening ties with Africa, as part of broader efforts to boost people-to-people exchanges between the two regions.

The initiative, unveiled at the opening of the 2026 China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges, is designed to provide African audiences with an accessible pathway to learning Chinese while fostering greater cultural engagement.

In a press release by Ms Liu, programme coordinator and ST Guide Channel manager, “Mandarin is increasingly serving as a vital bridge for mutual understanding, career advancement, and cultural connection between China and Africa.

“The aim is to make Mandarin accessible and enjoyable, so that learners at any level can truly savour the process of acquiring a new language,” Liu said.

She explained that the program, titled “Hello Chinese,” is built around four core segments. These will focus on vocabulary development through immersive, everyday scenarios, practical language use, and natural, experience-based learning. Additional segments will showcase the work and achievements of Confucius Institutes across Africa, highlighting their curricula, cultural activities, and locally adapted teaching methods.

Liu also noted that the China-Africa People-to-People Exchanges platform will encourage mutual learning and meaningful dialogue between civilisations. Citizens from various backgrounds will have the opportunity to share their personal experiences of working or living across both continents.

Another segment, “My Story with Chinese,” will underscore the tangible benefits of learning Mandarin and the real-world successes of Chinese language education in Africa.

As the 2026 China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges continues to unfold, the program is expected to serve as a dynamic bridge for linguistic and cultural connection, reinforcing the power of language to bring civilisations closer together.
