The Peoples Republic of China is mainly known for its massive strides in development within such a short frame. This process only got better with its opening up to the world and reform policies.

In April, at the Lanting Forum On Chinese Modernisation And The World, held at the Meet-The-World Lounge in Shanghai, the Chinese president, Xi Jinping sent his congratulatory message.

While indicating that for the Chinese nation, realising modernisation is a continuous pursuit since the beginning of modernisation, he also notes that modernisation is also the common aspiration of people of all countries, however, Xi emphasised the need for China to find a development path that suits it.

The leader of the Chinese Communist Party, hinted that China will offer new opportunities for global development and with new accomplishments in Chinese modernisation, lend new impetus to humanity’s search for paths toward modernisation and better social systems. China will work with all countries to advance the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

According to the state councillor and foreign minister, Qin Gang, “While Chinese modernisation is conceived in China, the opportunities it brings belong to the world.” The councilor also pointed out that countries who have attained modernisation should not tear down the bridge or prevent other countries from having the same accomplishments.

Gang also noted that, “There is no fixed model of, or single solution to, modernisation. Mechanically copying Ill-fitted foreign models is counter-productive.” China is a known advocate for domesticating modernisation models to suit the reality on ground in one’s country.

Meanwhile, Chinese Mordernisation reports that in ten years of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), over 3,000 cooperation projects have been carried out, $1 trillion investments made, 420,000 jobs created for participating countries.

It is also noted that a whooping, $320 million Chinese direct investment flows abroad everyday, over 3000 foreign companies set up in China every month, 400 million Chinese nationals have entered middle income group in the past 40 years, over 140 countries and regions view China as a major trading partner and 800 million Chinese people have been lifted out of poverty in the past 40 years.

Many of China’s modernisation benefits are witnessed across the globe. In Africa, it’s notably realised through the Forum On China – Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). In Nigeria for instance, China has supported in the building of roads, the Lekki Deep Sea Port, Zungeru hydro power plant, Abuja-Kaduna rail as well as Lagos – Ibadan rail, Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport among others.

The Lanting Forum On Chinese Modernisation And The World, was organised by the China Public Diplomacy Association and the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs. The forum was supported by the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government.

Representatives of governments, think tanks and media organisations from about 80 countries took part in the Forum.
